As you delve into the premises, setting, and characters of Technobabylon, its influences become apparent in its nuances. Technobabylon will remind you of classic Blade Runner movies, classic cult games like Policenauts, iconic anime / manga like Ghost in the Shell and even newer ones like Psycho Pass.
And finally Latha. She brings to the game her biggest breath of fresh air as she is able to get into the Trance. From here, you can interact with other users and even the AI systems you come across, showing them through humanistic avatars with unique personalities. Here, the game flexes its creative muscles not only to offer a unique game, but also to offer dialogues with wit and humor.
Despite the overall positive experience, the game was not without its problems. There are times when I get confused about what objects are or how they work, as it is often not clear without clicking on them to get a text description. Low-fidelity images also contribute to the problem of not always knowing what you can capture from the medium and what you can manipulate. It is easy to miss a drawer or a wrench as many useful items are mixed in the bottom. On top of that, some of the voice acting, particularly Regis’s, was too monotonous, making even the most dramatic scenes a little less touching. Not to mention that Trance is also underused.
