Nightmare of Decay Overview:
Nightmare of Decay is a first-person action and horror game set in a nightmare mansion. After going to bed one night, you wake up and find yourself trapped in a mansion infested with zombies, psychotic sectarians, and a horde of other horrors. You must use a variety of different weapons and limited resources in a brutal struggle for survival as you try to escape the nightmare … or die trying.
QOF features like unlimited inventory and sprint, as well as design of levels / puzzles that are not tedious or brainwashing. The game achieves a great balance of action, horror, idiots and gameplay that is satisfying. The story is pretty basic, but doing your job is intriguing enough not to want to see it, and the sound design helps tremendously throughout the game to give a mood. It also comes with more treats and incentives to make more games like RE games, so I find myself devoting more hours to this trying to unlock them.
The game is very reminiscent of Old-School Survival Horror and is very well done. Your protagonist is the right amount of clumsy without being helpless. Ammo and health items are pretty rare, but if you ration them decently and dodge a couple of zombies, you’ll have more than enough to go through the campaign. This game manages to transfer all the challenges of the third-person perspective of Resident Evil and turn them exceptionally well into the first-person perspective without letting your character dominate.
