GSC Game World has reportedly resumed work on Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl after the Russian invasion of Ukraine forced the studio to suspend development. On March 2, the Kiev-based developer announced it was putting the game on hold as it worked to help its employees and their families “survive” the conflict. According to Czech media reports, the studio moved its staff to Prague that same month.
Now it looks like the game is back on track. In response to a question from a member of Stalker 2’s Discord community asking if development had resumed, a GSC Game World employee said “it’s going ahead,” in a post noted by the Polish gaming executive. outlet GRYO Online. We have contacted the studio for confirmation.
After a delay at the start of the year, GSC Game World said it would release Stalker 2 on December 8. The announcement came before the Russian invasion of Ukraine sidelined the studio. Since the war started, the company also subtly changed the name of the game. The subtitle now reads “Heart of Chernobyl” instead of “Chernobyl”, the former reflecting the local Ukrainian spelling of the 1986 nuclear disaster site.
