Unsouled enemies react to every move you make. Keep your guard up at all times, as the slightest mistake will come with relentless enemy attacks. Perform various skill combos and counterattacks for maximum damage. Use the “Abyss” system to see the unique mechanics of the game. Players may be tempted to lower the difficulty setting, but mastering the actual combat requires practice.
Each skill combo in Unsouled has its own unique triggers. Whenever you use a skill, your character flashes for a brief second. Take advantage of this opportunity to turn your initial blow into a series of deadly blows by performing one skill after another. Learning the disabling pattern of each skill is key to mastering chain attacks. Combos are not the only tool in your belt. The mechanics of the counterattack remain true to the principle of high risk and high reward, which allows you to decimate several targets in a continuous attack when done correctly. Mastering chain counterattacks is key to changing the tide of your assailants.
Hitting an enemy against a wall, pushing him off the ledge, cutting down a tree to crush him, or even knocking down a large object to create a makeshift bridge are just a few of the many ways to overcome various obstacles and threats in the game. You can find special souls as you fight and explore. Passive souls take effect immediately after they are obtained, improving skills, unlocking new abilities, or upgrading existing ones. Active souls are activated manually through the interaction of buttons that can unlock abilities that are normally reserved for bosses, and are used for combos and to escape enemies.
