The game looks awesome and feels original from the start. Hand-drawn graphics play an important role in the storytelling and there is an unusual soundtrack that gives the game an earthy, natural feel. The problem with storytelling through images is that meaning can often be lost or interpreted in different ways. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what the story was until I later read the synopsis on the store page. It lacked cohesion for lack of narrative or voice interpretation. Weakless is a single player co-op adventure in which you take control of a deaf or blind forest creature named Weavling. The whole deaf and blind angle didn’t work for me. The deaf person has no disabilities in the game. You wouldn’t know he was deaf unless you were told. His deafness does not affect the game in any way. Even music and special effects can be heard when you are under their control.
The blind have a more obvious disadvantage and control is difficult because your eyesight is affected. However, he is not completely blind and can see small distances ahead, which can be extended by hitting his staff. Kind of a sonar arrangement, I guess. While solving these puzzles using the blind, I kept thinking to myself why blind a character in a puzzle game? It just got annoying instead of challenging. The sight of the camera was terrible, creating even more visibility problems, and the ability to “probe” didn’t always work. The camera angle is almost as bad for the deaf person and Blind often darkens your view as he follows behind you. Blind will always try to meet you when you are out of control, which often means getting stuck or getting into a deadly goa.
